Texas Redbud
(Cercis canadensis var. texensis)
The Texas Redbud is a beloved native ornamental tree known for its toughness, beauty, and unmistakable spring display. In early spring, vibrant magenta-pink blooms emerge directly along the branches, creating a striking burst of color before the foliage appears.
Thick, glossy, heart-shaped leaves follow, offering a lush green canopy through summer and excellent heat tolerance compared to Eastern redbud varieties. In fall, foliage transitions to warm yellow tones, adding seasonal interest before winter dormancy reveals a graceful branching structure.
Well adapted to North and Central Texas conditions, the Texas Redbud thrives in full sun to partial shade and performs reliably in a wide range of soils, making it an excellent choice for residential landscapes, entryways, and understory plantings.
